prayer and personal revelation

Todd and I were asked to give talks in churchs yesterday. It's over...big sigh of relieve! I'm not a writer or a public speaker but I am more than willing to speak in church when called upon. So I pray like crazy for the Lord to help me and He usually pulls through. I couldn't do it on my own that is for sure.

The topic we were assigned was "prayer and personal revelation". I believe that we can recieve personal revelation regarding things in our lives if we will prayer to our Father in Heaven. He is there with His arm extended waiting for us to seek Him.

I wanted to share some of the quotes that I used in my talk yesterday.

President Hinckley(Standing For Something p. 109) said, “There is no more compelling motivation than the knowledge that He will give us help if help is sought.”

President Hinckley(Standing For Something p.110) testified of faith by saying, “I know that He is intensely interested in our welfare and involved in our lives, that I can speak with Him in prayer, and that He will hear and listen.”

(Matthew 7:7) “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

Elder Bednar in his last conference address said, “I long have been impressed with the truth that meaningful prayer requires both holy communication and consecrated work. Blessings require some effort on our part before we can obtain them, and prayer, as “a form of work, . . . is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings” (Bible Dictionary, “Prayer,” 753).

So the question came…can we look towards physical evidence as answers to our prayers? This is what Gene R. Cook emeritus General Authority said regarding this subject, “If one is to make judgments with only his natural senses, he will never perceive the truth of the spiritual world.”

D&C 9:8-9 where it says, “you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong.”

They were both fabulous talks. I love those quotes from Elder Cook and Elder Bednar.

Both Liz & Todd did GREAT with their talks. I loved how they personalized it to their family. We are soooo glad you are NOT moving!! :)
