we saw a "fighter-fighter"

Going to see the fighter-fighter was all Eliza could talk about for two weeks prior to going to visit the firestation with her preschool class. She made sure that we didn't miss getting the permission slip turned in. She made sure I ironed her fieldtrip t-shirt and laid it out on the dresser so that it would be ready. She made sure she filled up a waterbottle to take with her. Oh my...I'm sure we'll never miss a single assignment or activity when this child gets into school. The funny part about the entire trip was...Charlie! You would have thought that he was one of the preschoolers. He was right in the middle of all of the actions. He raised his hand. He said, "no" or "yes" right on cue with the other preschoolers. He sat and paid attention. He lined up for every picture when Mrs. Kerri asked the preschoolers to line up.
The preschoolers helped "dress" the fireman by telling them each piece that came next. They loved it and the firemen were so good with the children. They talked about fire safety of course. They even included a nice little guilt trip for the parents about how we need to talk about it to our children in detail, practice fire drills, and have a meeting spot. We are currently not doing any of these things. Honestly I've always been afraid of freaking my children out and making them have nightmares. But I understand the importance of it and we are going to do better.
The firemen thought Charlie was so cute! So he got to drive the big truck. Eliza's day was perfect when she got to get into the firetruck and look around for a minute. Although she told me later that she didn't understand why they didn't actually get to ride around in it.
